Ferns and Grasses Quizzes

Ferns and Ornamental Grasses [show/hide]

There are about 12,000 different species of fern and 3,500 different species of grass.  Our quizzes provide a quick overview of popular forms that are grown in gardens.   Both ferns and grasses are grown for their foliage effects but some of the ornamental grasses also have interesting flower heads.

Pteridophyte is the almost unpronounable technical name given to ferns!  Many forms such as the bracken found growing in the Scottish highlands are invasive weeds so care should be taken when choosing varieties for your garden.

Grasses are technically known as graminoides and are amongst the most adaptable life forms.  They are the most widespread plant type in our world and can be found from the wettest forests to the driest deserts.  It has to be said that many grasses are rather dull looking so only the most colourful and unusual are selected for use in gardens.

How To Play [show/hide]

Each quiz consists of 10 questions and each question has 4 multiple choice answers. At the top of each quiz you are given a choice of how you want to play it and this affects what happens when you provide an incorrect answer. You can either have the correct answer given immediately, or you can choose to have the questions presented again at the end of the quiz. To print any of the Key Stage 3 quizzes (both questions and answers) click the “Print” link at the bottom of the quiz.
