Fruit is the part of a plant that contains its seeds. Evolution has ensured that many seeds are surrounded by sweet and fleshy material that is often eaten by animals so that the plant's seeds are propagated far and wide. Liking the taste of many fruits has ensured that humans now use great swathes of the land surface to produce it commercially.
The quizzes here are concerned with fruits that are regularly produced in Britain but some, like plums and melons, do progressively less well as you go Northwards whilst others, like peaches and nectarines require a sunny, sheltered position even when grown in the south of England.
Each quiz consists of 10 questions and each question has 4 multiple choice answers. At the top of each quiz you are given a choice of how you want to play it and this affects what happens when you provide an incorrect answer. You can either have the correct answer given immediately, or you can choose to have the questions presented again at the end of the quiz. To print any of the Key Stage 3 quizzes (both questions and answers) click the “Print” link at the bottom of the quiz.
