Reptiles as traditionally seen as being ‘cold-blooded’. They inhabit every continent except Antarctica. There are nearly 8,000 species of the order Squamata, which includes snakes, worm lizards and lizards.
The Komodo Dragon is the heaviest lizard in the world. They have thrived for millions of years in the harsh climate of Lesser Sunda Islands in Indonesia. Incredibly, their existence was unknown to humans until about 100 years ago.
Whilst amphibians are similar to reptiles, they are a different species. The most well-known amphibians are frogs and toads. The species also includes salamanders and newts. The term amphibian is traditionally thought to mean an animal that can live both in water and on land.
