The sea tends
to draw humans to it like a magnet. We spend our holidays by the seaside and
when the sun shines, we flock to the beach to enjoy the cool breeze from the
sea. When thinking of seaside creatures, seagulls and crabs come to mind, but
what creatures lurk underneath our oceans?
There are
salt water fish such as tuna, anchovy and the fearsome barracuda. There are
microscopic organisms such as zooplankton (normally too small to be seen with
the naked eye) through to enormous whales which have been reported to be as
large as 48 metres (125 ft) in length.
Because the
oceans cover a great deal of planet Earth, it stands to reason that a large
proportion of life exists in these oceans. The amount is unknown because many
ocean species are yet to be discovered.
