Introduction

The 4-minute video below takes you through the entire process of managing your school system with Education Quizzes. Beneath the video is a written set of step-by-step instructions.

Because we are a quiz site we like to do things by question and answer! Please don't be intimidated by the length of this document because it goes into great detail and once you start using the system you will find that it is very intuitive.

What do I need to get started?

You first need to register your school with us for a free one year trial. You can do that on the page at schools registration

What happens after I register?

Our automated system records your school and sends you a confirmation email. In the email we ask you to let us have the first names and last names of 5 Students (real or fictional). After we receive your reply we set-up your account and use the 5 names you have provided to illustrate how things work in your online Admin section. We then email you to tell you that you are ready-to-go.

Can more than one teacher at a school use the same login?

Yes, all teachers at a school will use the same login.

How do I login to the site?

Visit our login page and input your Username and Password then click “Login”.

When logged-in, click “Schools Administration” in the blue bar near the top of the screen.

What happens next?

You will be taken to the page where you can administer the details for your school. Throughout the rest of these notes we refer to this as the “Admin Page”. You can get back to this page at any time by clicking “Schools Administration” in the blue bar near the top of the screen (provided you are logged-in).

What if I make a mistake?

There’s absolutely no need to worry because anything you do wrong (like a spelling mistake or putting a Student into a wrong Class) can easily be corrected from this one page.

How do I determine whether or not a particular Student has been created?

In the Admin section, look down the list under the “Students” heading. Use the scroll bar to scan through the list and note that the list is arranged alphabetically by the Student’s last name.

How do I create a new Student?

When you have checked to see that your Student does not already exist (see the instructions above), click “Add new Student”. A box will appear that contains four fields that need filling in as follows:
First name: The Student’s first name
Last name: The Student’s last name
Username: Anything you like.
Password: Anything you like.
Please note that the Username will automatically be prefixed with the 3 letters that we use as a reference for your school. Thus, if your 3 letter code is “abc” and you type “HarryGrey” in the Username box then the Student will login using “abcHarryGrey”. If the Username has already been used at your school then you will be prompted to input a different one. In this particular case you might use “HarryGrey1”.

When you have made the entries, don’t forget to click “Create” otherwise your new Student will not have been created!

Do I have to use a combination of first name and last name for Usernames?

No, but we recommend that you do. That way it is easier for your Students to remember their own Username and easier for you to remind them!

Please note that the Username is NOT case sensitive (you can use capital and lower case letters in whatever way you like).

Do you recommend a Password format?

Yes, we suggest using the same, easily remembered, Password for everyone for a start. Each Student can change their own Password when they have logged in.

Please note that the Password IS case sensitive and the Students must type it exactly as you have entered it.

How do I edit a Student?

Scroll down the list in the Students section of the Admin Page and click “Edit” against the one you want to change. You will find that an edit box pops up.

You can edit any of the individual fields and then click “Save”. Please see the paragraph that follows if you want to change a Password

How do I change a Student’s Password?

For security reasons the passwords of students are not displayed. If the Student has forgotten his/her Password, then you can create a new one by following this procedure:
1) In the Students section click “Edit” against the one you want to change
2) In the Edit box that pops up click on “click here”
3) In the “New password” box type the new Password
4) Click “Save”

How do I delete a Student?

Scroll down the list in the Students section of the Admin Page and click “Edit” against the one you want to change. You will find that a box pops up and in this click “Delete”. You will be prompted to make absolutely sure that you do indeed want to delete this Student; if you do then click “Yes, I want to delete this Student”.

Why do I need Classes?

Reports are available for teachers to view the quiz playing record of each Student in each Class.

Each Student can appear in any number of different Classes. For instance, John Smith might appear in the Class named “Year 1 English” as well as the Class named “Year 1 Maths”.

By allocating Students to Classes it is easy for teachers to see the quiz playing record for each Student in each individual Class. This is particularly useful for teachers who set the quizzes as self-marking homework.

How do I name Classes?

Each school has different conventions and we recommend that you adopt the conventions of your school. Examples follow:
Year 1 Maths
Year 1 English
etc.

First Year Maths
First Year English
etc.

Year 1 Set 1 Maths
Year 1 Set 2 Maths
etc.

The teacher who sets up the first Classes will probably find that other teachers at the same school will follow his/her lead and use the same conventions.

How do I determine whether or not the Classes I need have been created?

On the Admin Page you will see a section with the heading “Classes”. In this section you will see a button for “Add new class”. Beneath this button will be a list of all Classes already created.

How do I create new Classes?

On the Admin Page you will see a section with the heading “Classes”. In this section you will see an “Add new class” button. If there is a list beneath the “Add new class” button then these are Classes that have already been created.

When you click the “Add new Class” button you will find that a box pops up. Insert the name for the new Class and click “Create”.

How do I edit a Class?

Scroll down the list in the Class section of the Admin Page and click “Edit” against the one you want to change. You will find that a box pops up. Edit the “Name” and then click “Edit” to save these changes.

How do I delete a Class?

Scroll down the list in the Class section of the Admin Page and click “Edit” against the one you want to delete. You will find that a box pops up. Click “Delete”. You will be prompted to make absolutely sure that you do indeed want to delete this Class; if you do then click “Yes, I want to delete this Class”.

How do I allocate Students to Classes?

The section where this is accomplished is near the bottom of the Admin Page and it is labelled “Allocating Students to Classes”.

Make sure that the Class you are working on has already been created in the Classes section. If it is a new Class then create it in the Classes section first.

Make sure that the Students that you require have already been created in the Students section. If you come across a new Student (no record yet created) then create the Student in the Students section.

Click in the dropdown box and click again on the Class you want to work on.

Click “Go”.

Two lists will appear labelled as follows:
Students Not in This Class
Students in This Class

Click on the individual Students in either list to move them in or out of the Class that you are working on.

Each time that you click on a Student there will be a short delay whilst the lists are updated.

How do I view the reports for Students in a given Class

In the Class Reports section of the Admin Page click on “View Reports” and you will be taken to a page titled “School Reporting – Select Class and Dates”. From there, follow this procedure:

  1. Against “Form or class:” there is a dropdown box. Click in the box and then click again on the Class that you require
  2. Beneath “Report period” you can click against one of the suggested options or you can click against “Custom” and then input the exact reporting period that you require
  3. Beneath “Report by:” click against “Report by student”
  4. Click “Submit”
  5. A page will appear that lists all the Students in the Class and against each name there will be a number that indicates how many quizzes they have played in your specified time period
  6. Click any name to see that student’s quiz-playing record
  7. Click on “Save as PDF” if you want to produce a hard copy of the report

How do I view the report for a quiz set as homework?

In the Class Reports section of the Admin Page click on “View Reports” and you will be taken to a page titled “School Reporting – Select Class and Dates”. From there, follow this procedure:

  1. Against “Form or class:” there is a dropdown box. Click in the box and then click again on the Class that you require
  2. Beneath “Report period” you can click against one of the suggested options or you can click against “Custom” and then input the exact reporting period that you require
  3. Beneath “Report by:” click against “Report by quiz”
  4. Click “Submit”
  5. Click in the box beneath “Curriculum” and then click again to select the curriculum you require
  6. Click in the box beneath “Subject” and then click again to select the subject you require
  7. A list will appear showing all the quizzes in your specified curriculum and subject
  8. Click the quiz you require
  9. A page will appear showing all the students who played the quiz, the dates played and their score
  10. Click on “Save as PDF” if you want to produce a hard copy of the report

How do I change the school Password?

Login to the site, go to “Schools Administration” and then click the button labelled “Change Password”. A box will pop up. Fill in the 4 fields and click “Submit”.

How do I change the school Username?

This needs to be done from our office – please telephone 01406 371799.
