In which month would you expect to see Santa? Can you say it in Spanish?

Vocabulary - The Months of the Year

This Spanish Easy Review vocabulary quiz will help you to review the months of the year. Like the days of the week, in Spanish, unlike in English, the months of the year are generally written in lower case letters, i.e. they are not capitalized unless they are being used as the beginning word of a sentence or they are being used as a proper name. It is one of the biggest differences between written English and written Spanish. As you will note from the list below, the Spanish months are very similar to the English months which makes it pretty easy and fun. Still, it is important to take the time to memorize how each word is pronounced, as well as how each word is written. So now let’s look at the months of the year.

English Spanish Pronounced (Phonetically) As:
January enero ĕ-nare-rō
February febrero fĕb-brair-rō
March marzo mar-zō
April abril ă-brĭl
May mayo māy-ō
June junio oo-nē-ō
July julio who-lē-ō
August agosto ă-gŏs-tō
September septiembre sep-tē-ĕm-brāy
October octubre oc-tube-brāy
November noviembre nō-vē-ĕm-brāy
December diciembre dē-see-ĕm-brāy

One of the best things about the months of the year is that none of the Spanish months include any accent marks or tildes so that makes life a little easier! Again, the only thing to remember is that the months are generally not capitalized.

Now let’s look at the following ten quiz sentences. For each sentence, see if you can determine which Spanish month should be used.
