Addition and Subtraction are all about putting numbers together or taking some away. It’s the basic component of mathematics and you need to master it to do well in your maths lessons at school.
This is the second of our Very Easy Addition and Subtraction quizzes and it offers you more practice adding and taking away. Keep playing and, before long, you’ll be doing plus and minus problems as if it were your second nature.

To subtract 19 from a number, first subtract 20, then add 1

To add 11, first add 10 then add 1
|

TIP: With numbers less than 100, add the tens first and then add the units. 16 + 8 - 3 = (10) + (6 + 8 - 3) = 10 + (14 - 3) = 10 + 11 = 21

13 + 20 – 7 + 2 = (10 + 20) + (3 + 2 - 7) = 30 + (5 - 7) = 30 - 2 = 28

9 + 17 – 6 + 4 = (10) + (9 + 7 + 4) - 6 = 10 + 20 - 6 = 24

3 + 5 + 7 + 8 + 2 = (3 + 7) + (2 + 8) + 5 = 25. Try to group your numbers in lots of ten

1 + 3 + 13 – 0 + 3 = (10) + (3 + 3 + 3 + 1) = 20. Remember, zeros are worth nothing in addition and subtraction!
