Welcome to this, the second of our medium level Eleven Plus maths quizzes on negative numbers. These are numbers less than zero and, as we found out in the last quiz, they are surprisingly common – minus temperatures and bank overdraughts, for example, are both negative numbers (also known as minus numbers).
In the previous quiz each question was accompanied by a number line to make things easier for you. In this one, there is no such help – you’ll just have to rely on your wits! Perhaps visualising a number line will help, or perhaps you have your own technique.
Think of negative numbers in just the same way positive ones, with one difference – the higher the negative number, the lower it will be (-78 is lower than -28 for example). Keep practicing and you’ll soon be a dab hand at negative numbers.
