This 'Sound er' spelling quiz tests KS1 children on these two letters as a sound within words and not as a suffix. The spellings have been taken from and added to those in the National Curriculum.
The letters ‘er’ can be added to the end of words to alter the meaning but it is also a sound within words. This sound is stressed, which means you can hear the ‘er’ sound within the words (unlike when it’s a suffix). How many of these ‘er’ spellings do you know?
