This KS2 PSHE quiz will help you understand the importance of taking part in regular exercise as well as explaining the changes that will happen to the body during physical activity and why these changes occur. It will also give examples of ways you can exercise, both with friends and alone.
In order to live a healthy life we need to eat a balanced diet, drink plenty of water, and exercise on a regular basis. Exercise is good for both physical and mental health in many different ways and can be used to reduce and prevent illness, as it ensures the body's systems are working effectively. Exercise can be done in a number of ways, some in groups or teams and some on your own, some require special equipment whereas other activities require nothing. It doesn’t matter what exercise you choose or whether you choose to exercise with others or alone - as long as you are getting active. Some exercise is fast-paced and some is slower, each having different benefits and working different muscle groups. It is best to do a variety of activities to ensure you work your whole body.

It is important that children aged 5-17 do some form of exercise every day. It is recommended that this lasts for 60 minutes and can be a sport class, a swimming lesson or even running round with friends

If you want to exercise with other people, it can be good fun to join a team such as netball, football or hockey

We can exercise on our own doing activities like swimming, walking and running, where a partner or team is not required

When you exercise you can feel your heart beating harder and faster. This is because it needs to pump more oxygen-rich blood around the body and to the muscles

When you exercise you will breathe faster so that you can get more oxygen into the body. With regular exercise you will start to increase your lung capacity which also has health benefits

When you exercise you use your muscles and they get bigger and stronger the more you use them

Your body temperature increases when you exercise and this will make you feel warmer. You will also notice that you start to sweat - this is the body's way of cooling you down so you don’t get too hot

Running is good for improving the strength of your bones. Climbing, sit-ups and press-ups are good choices for improving the strength of your muscles

Exercise increases the bloodflow to the brain which helps people to concentrate better and improves their memory

When you exercise, your body starts to sweat and you should replace this by drinking some water to help stay healthy
