Social Education Quiz - Working Together - Age 5-7 (Questions)

As a part of Social Education in PSHE, children in KS1 are taught how to work together and to be a better group member. In this quiz, written specifically for children in years 1 and 2, we look at some practical measures children can take to get along well with others and work as part of a team.

Some of us are very good at working in a team. Others can be better at working alone. But working with others is an important skill to have. Groups often work much better at a task than an individual would.

A well-known saying is, 'There is no I in team.' This means that in a team, everyone is important, not just one person. This quiz is going to test you on working together, or in a group. Let’s see if you are a team player!

Social Education Quiz - Working Together - Age 5-7 (Answers)
1. You've been the only one talking in the group. What should you do?
[ ] Refuse to say another word
[x] Ask if anyone else would like to speak
[ ] Demand that someone else talk now
[ ] Keep talking
Sometimes when you're so full of ideas you can talk and talk and talk! But don't forget, a team is made up of more than one person and other people might want to speak too.
2. Why do teachers sometimes put you in groups?
[ ] Because they love watching you argue
[ ] Because they like saying the word 'group'
[ ] Because they think it's funny
[x] Because they think you can learn from each other
This is the main reason. Sometimes an activity is too big to be done by one person, so you have to work in a group to get the task done.
3. You feel shy and hate group activities. What should you do?
[x] Ask a friend in the group if they can help you build up your confidence and start with a small task
[ ] Cry
[ ] Pretend to be invisible
[ ] Sulk
You may want to cry but unfortunately crying never helps - instead try and talk to someone in the group; they might feel the same. If that doesn't fix the problem, see if a teacher can help you.
4. Someone in your team is struggling. What should you do?
[ ] Tell the teacher that they should be in a different group
[ ] Leave them behind
[x] See how you can help them
[ ] Shout at them
You are a team. That means you should work together and try to fix any problems as a team.
5. Which of these is not a team sport?
[ ] Hockey
[x] Snooker
[ ] Cricket
[ ] Football
A team sport involves more than one person.
6. Why should you work in a team?
[ ] So that you have someone to chat to
[ ] Because certain games have to have a set amount of players
[ ] Because you are told to
[x] So that you can help each other and become better
Being in a team means you have others to help you and that you can learn from.
7. You have been writing all the answers for your group. Is that wrong?
[x] Yes - you should ask if anyone else wants to write and if not, carry on
[ ] No - you want to do it and so you should be able to do it
[ ] Yes - it means your team mates are lazy
[ ] No - you have the best handwriting
If your team is happy with this choice then that's fine but if not, perhaps you should take it in turns and share all the tasks.
8. You need to find a pair - who should you pick?
[ ] Someone that is short
[ ] Someone that is tall
[x] Someone you don't know and would like to get to know better
[ ] Someone who has the same name as you
Pair work or group work is a good way to get to know other people and make new friends.
9. In school, when should you not work together?
[ ] Hymn practise
[x] During a test
[ ] During a class assembly
[ ] Playing rugby
All these other activities are done in a group but tests are to see how you do individually.
10. Oh no! You don't agree with someone in your group. What should you do?
[ ] Shout at them
[ ] Ignore them
[ ] Throw them out of your group
[x] See if you can reach an agreement and if not, take a vote
Voting is the fairest way to decide as it means you do what most (the majority) of your group wants.
