Paying close attention to a character’s words and deeds, as well as to the narrator’s description, gives readers a better understanding of their personality. Some books have an omniscient third-person narrator who tells the reader exactly what to think. Others are told in the first person from the point of view of one particular character, and in these the narrator is themselves the protagonist. In these the reader feels a deeper empathy, although what is in the book is limited to what the narrator can themselves see.
This is the second quiz in our series of four on fictional characters. Here you will find questions on Bleak House, The Young Visitors, The Playboy of the Western World, Titus Groan, Dracula, The Grapes of Wrath and more besides. All specifically for your enjoyment!
