The Earth’s structure is made up of six layers. The top layer is the crust. The crust took on a solid form billions of years ago. It is broken up into huge, very thick 'plates'. The plates then rest upon a rocky mantle. Shifting of the plates can cause major alterations to the Earth’s surface by way of events such as earthquakes and tsunamis.

Although some say there are only four layers, we have two additional layers that connect other layers. The four main layers are the core, the lower mantle, the upper mantle and the crust. The layer between the upper mantle and the crust is known as the lithosphere. The core also consists of an inner core and an outer core
The core is made up of mostly a hard metal. Magma is liquid, nickel is soft and granite is not a metal

Where the core is solid, the area around the core is a mixture of both rock and molten lava. The crust is the Earth’s surface. The lithosphere is just below the Earth’s surface. Magma is not one of the layers. That only leaves the mantle
The top layer is the thinnest. The crust's thickness varies from as little as 2 miles at the mid-ocean bottom to 70 miles under some continental mountain ranges

Iron has a lot to do with the Earth’s magnetic field. The core is made up of mostly iron
Divergent refers to being separate and different. A divergent boundary is where two things separate from each other
The mantle contains rocks and molten lava. It is not solid nor does it contain metal
Convergent refers to things moving towards each other rather than away from each other

The Earth’s crust consists of oceans and land masses or continents
This layer is just under the surface of the Earth’s crust. Some consider it to be part of the Earth’s crust. It connects the crust with the upper mantle
