Spanish Easy Review Quiz - Grammar - Conjugating IR Verbs - Present Tense (2) (Questions)

This Spanish Easy Review grammar quiz is the sixth and final quiz on conjugating regular verbs. There have been two quizzes on conjugating ar verbs, two on conjugating er verbs and two on conjugating ir verbs. Notice that we have been talking about regular verbs. Spanish is, however, filled with many irregular verbs which will be addressed in a series of other quizzes. For now, let’s focus on the last ir regular verb quiz.

By now you should be a bit more comfortable and familiar with how to conjugate verbs but it is always good to practice.

[readmore]

Remember that the ir verb tense endings are o, es, e, imos, ís, en. Although they are very similar to the er endings, there are a couple that are different so it is important that you always remember the base verb in order to know how to conjugate the verb correctly. As you have had some practice already, we will not conjugate a practice verb at this time but will jump right into the quiz.

There are a total of ten present tense English verbs given with a pronoun. From the answers provided, locate the Spanish verb and pronoun that will match the English.

Spanish Easy Review Quiz - Grammar - Conjugating IR Verbs - Present Tense (2) (Answers)
1. I write
[x] yo escribo
[ ] nosotros escribimos
[ ] ellos escriben
[ ] usted escribe
The quickest way to find the answer is to determine the right pronoun. The Spanish pronoun for 'I' is 'yo'. Now you can quickly eliminate the second, third and last answers. The first answer shows the correct pronoun and present tense form of the verb 'I write'.
2. they describe
[ ] nosotros describimos
[x] ellos describen
[ ] él describe
[ ] vosotros describís
The first step is to determine the correct pronoun. In this case the pronoun is 'they' and since we do not know whether 'they' refers to all boys, all girls or both, we use the masculine form of the pronoun which is ellos. This means you can eliminate the first, third and last answers. The second answer does show the correct pronoun and present tense of the verb 'they describe'.
3. you fight (countries)
[ ] usted combate
[ ] tú combates
[ ] vosotros combatís
[x] ustedes combaten
The first thing to look at is the pronoun. The Spanish pronoun for 'you' when it refers to countries would be plural and formal as opposed to familiar. The plural, formal version of 'you' is ustedes. This means that the first, second and third answers are not correct. The last answer on the other hand has the correct pronoun and present tense form of the verb 'you fight'.
4. he invades
[ ] ellas invaden
[ ] ellos invaden
[x] él invade
[ ] ella invade
The first thing to look at is the pronoun. The word 'he' is the pronoun and 'he' in Spanish is 'él'. This tells us that the first, second and last answers are each incorrect. The third answer does show the correct pronoun and the correct conjugated present tense form of the verb for 'he invades'.
5. we polish
[ ] nosotras pulamos
[x] nosotros pulimos
[ ] nosotros pulemos
[ ] nosotras pulimos
As you have come to understand, the first thing to do is to check the pronoun. In this case it is 'we' and since we do not know whether 'we' refers to all boys, all girls or both, we will need to use a masculine, plural pronoun. The Spanish, masculine, plural pronoun for 'we' is nosotros so we can quickly eliminate the first and last answers. In addition, the first and third answers have used the wrong present tense endings for an ir verb so that makes them incorrect as well. The second answer does show the correct pronoun and the correct conjugated present tense form of the verb for 'we polish'.
6. she hides
[ ] él encubre
[ ] yo encubro
[x] ella encubre
[ ] tú encubres
First determine what the pronoun should be. The Spanish pronoun for 'she' is ella. This means that the first, second and last answers are each incorrect. The third answer shows the correct pronoun, as well as the correct present tense of the verb 'she hides'.
7. he spits
[x] él escupe
[ ] ella escupe
[ ] usted escupe
[ ] ellos escupen
The first thing to look at is the pronoun. The word 'he' is the pronoun and 'he' in Spanish is 'él'. This tells us that the second, third and last answers are incorrect. The first answer has the correct pronoun and the correct conjugated present tense form of the verb for 'he spits'.
8. you interrupt (aunt)
[ ] ellos interrumpen
[x] tú interrumpes
[ ] ustedes interrumpen
[ ] ellas interrumpen
The first thing to do is to check out the pronoun. The pronoun for 'you' when 'you' is an aunt means that the person is a familiar person. The Spanish pronoun for a familiar 'you' person is tú. This means that the first, third and last answers are each incorrect leaving the second answer which does show the correct pronoun and present tense form of the verb 'you interrupt'.
9. you consume (siblings)
[ ] ellos consumen
[ ] ustedes consumen
[x] vosotros consumís
[ ] tú consumes
First determine which pronoun should be used. Here we have the pronoun 'you' and 'you' refers to siblings. Siblings would be plural and they are also familiar. It is also easily assumed that siblings include both brothers and sisters so we must use the masculine form of the pronoun. The Spanish plural, familiar, masculine pronoun for 'you' is vosotros. This means that the first, second and last answers are each incorrect. The third answer, however, does show the correct pronoun and present tense form of the verb 'you consume'.
10. they divide (ladies)
[ ] ustedes dividen
[ ] nosotras dividimos
[ ] ellos dividen
[x] ellas dividen
The first step is to determine the correct pronoun. The Spanish pronoun for 'they' when 'they' are all ladies is ellas. This means you can eliminate the first, second and third answers. The last answer shows the correct pronoun and present tense of the verb 'they divide'.
