Again, as this is a writing quiz, your task includes writing out your answer. You are training your brain to be able to recognize a new language. In addition, as you write the new language words down, your brain connects images with words. Similarly, as you pronounce your words out loud, the ears begin to easily recognize sounds. Putting writing and hearing together will then actually strengthen the mind’s memory abilities.

Okay, now for your quiz task. Read each quiz sentence and then write down what you believe to be the correct Spanish translation. Then check the four given answers to the sentence to see which translation is correct. If your translation was not correct, write down the correct translation. If your answer is correct, then move on to the next quiz sentence. See just how many you can write correctly the first time!

[ ] Ella baila la calle.
The Spanish word for street is calle. It is a feminine word. The first answer shows it as a masculine word so it is not a correct translation. Again, that is not what the given sentence states. The second answer translates as: She dances in the street.

[ ] Tomás ayuda la profesora.
[ ] Tomás ayuda lo profesor.
[x] Tomás ayuda el profesor.
The Spanish word for Thomas is Tomás and it has been translated correctly in each answer. In this sentence you cannot tell if the teacher is a man or a woman. When you do not know the gender you use the masculine form of the word. The first and second answers show the feminine form of the word so they can be eliminated. The third answer shows the Spanish word lo which means it. That word is not part of the given sentence so it is not translated correctly. The last answer translates as: Thomas helps the teacher.
4. He feels happy!
[x] ¡Él siente feliz!
[ ] ¡Él siente cansado!
[ ] ¡Él siente triste!
[ ] ¡Él siente emocionado!
The Spanish words for he feels are él siente. Each answer has translated this correctly. That leaves the word happy. The second answer translates as: He feels tired! That is not correct. The third answer translates as: He feels sad! That, too, is not correct. The last answer translates as: He is excited! Again, that is not the correct translation. The first answer does translate as: He is happy!
5. Taylor comes home tomorrow.
[ ] Taylor vene a casa mañana.
[ ] Taylor viene a casa manana.
[x] Taylor viene a casa mañana.
[ ] Taylor vene a casa manana.
The name Taylor stays the same in both English and Spanish. The Spanish word for comes (meaning he comes) is viene. This means that the first and last answers can be eliminated as they do not contain the proper translation for comes. The Spanish word for tomorrow is mañana. The first 'n' has a tilde over it. The second answer does not have a tilde over the 'n' making it an incorrect translation. (Note that mañana means both morning and tomorrow. The meaning will be dependent upon the context of the full sentence.) The third answer does show the correct translation of the given sentence. One thing to point out is the use of 'a casa'. The actual translation of the third answer is: Taylor comes to home tomorrow. You will often see the 'a' used in this manner although it can also be written and spoken without it. Just be aware of its usage.

The third answer translates as: She speaks her mother. It is a nonsensical sentence and not the correct translation. The second answer translates as: She speaks of her mother. The Spanish possessive pronoun su (her) needs to be in the sentence.
9. He climbs the tree.
[ ] Él escale el árbol.
[ ] Él escale el arbol.
[x] Él escala el árbol.
