Vocabulary 31 - Words that Express Feelings

One dictionary defines feeling as, "the sense of touch; the ability to experience physical sensations such as heat and pain, and a state of mind."

The same dictionary defines emotion as, "an affective state of consciousness in which joy, sorrow, fear, hate, or the like, is experienced and any strong feeling, as of joy, sorrow, or fear."

Did you notice that in the definition of emotion the word feeling is also included? We have come to realise that it is futile to differentiate between emotions and feelings. However, it may be noted that feelings are physical sensations caused by external factors and also include sensations that may be triggered by our internal thoughts. Emotions are always triggered by our internal thoughts and relate to the state of mind.
