Hours, minutes and seconds are the different units of time measurement children will be expected to understand. They may know that there are 60 seconds in a minute and 60 minutes in an hour, but they should certainly appreciate that an hour is longer than a minute and a minute is longer than a second and perhaps even begin to count up to 60 to record 1 minute.
