Fascinating Fact:

This and that can show time as well as distance, This morning was cold, That Friday in July was 28 degrees.

In KS3 English, pronouns stand in for nouns to make writing clear and concise. You will use subject and object forms correctly, match pronouns to their antecedents, and choose demonstratives that point to people, places, or times.

  • Pronoun: A word that replaces a noun, such as she, them, or yours.
  • Antecedent: The noun a pronoun refers to, for example the dog in “The dog wagged its tail.”
  • Demonstrative pronoun: A pointing word like this, that, these, those used to indicate items or times.
What is a pronoun in KS3 English?

A pronoun is a word used instead of a noun. Examples include I, you, he, she, it, we, they and object forms like me, him, her, us, them.

What is the difference between subject and object pronouns?

Subject pronouns do the action (She runs). Object pronouns receive it (I saw her). Choose the form based on the pronoun’s job in the sentence.

When do I use this, that, these, and those?

Use this/these for things nearby in space or time (this week), and that/those for things farther away (that summer, those books).
