Maths Quiz - Level 5-6 Numbers - Percentages - Parts (Questions)

Percentages describe parts of a whole. Learn to find a percent of a quantity, compare results, and explain changes clearly using simple multipliers.

Fascinating Fact:

In exams, aiming to improve from 65 percent to 80 percent shows you’ve increased your correct answers by 15 percent of the total.

In KS3 Maths, you use percentages to describe parts of sets, test scores, and everyday quantities. You will convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages, and use multipliers to calculate results efficiently.

  • Percentage: A way to express a part out of 100, written with the % symbol.
  • Proportion: How much of the whole something is, often written as a fraction or percentage.
  • Multiplier: A number used to apply a percentage in one step, like 0.3 for 30% or 1.3 for a 30% increase.
How do I find a percentage of a number in KS3 Maths?

Change the percentage to a decimal and multiply. For example, 35% of 240 is 0.35 × 240 = 84.

What is the easiest way to convert between fractions, decimals, and percentages?

Fraction to decimal: divide the numerator by the denominator. Decimal to percent: multiply by 100 and add %. Percent to decimal: divide by 100.

How do I compare two percentages fairly?

Use the same whole for both comparisons. Convert each to decimals or use multipliers so you are comparing like with like.
