This KS3 RE quiz takes a further look at Christianity. Unsurprisingly, considering how many Christians there are in the world, and the long history of the religion, there are a great many divisions and differences of opinion and teaching amongst its various branches. The history of Christianity includes a series of Councils, where bishops and others gathered to try to agree on the basics of faith, the contents of the Bible and correct teaching. Sometimes agreement couldn't be reached, resulting in schisms, one of the most major being between the eastern (Orthodox) and western (Catholic) churches. Later, in Europe, further disagreement led to the Reformation and the appearance of "Protestant" churches, of which there are now many denominations. Most, although not all, Christian churches belong to the World Council of Churches and agree on a set of beliefs seen as essential to Christianity.
