Spanish Easy Review Quiz - Vocabulary - Emotions, Feelings and Behaviors (Answers)
1. They are HAPPY!
[ ] felizes
[ ] infeliz
[ ] feliz
[x] felices
The Spanish word for happy is feliz which means that the second answer is not correct. One thing that you must remember to find the correct answer is to know the pronoun. Here the pronoun is 'they' which means there is more than one person who is happy. This means that the adjective must also become plural. Did you then remember the rule about words that end in 'z'? When a word ends in 'z' and must be made plural, the 'z' is replaced with a 'c'. The first answer does not follow this rule so it is not correct and the third answer has remained singular. The last answer, on the other hand, does translate the plural 'happy' correctly.
2. She is NERVOUS.
[x] nerviosa
[ ] nurviosa
[ ] nervioso
[ ] nurvioso
Looking at the pronoun here we see that it is 'she' and 'she' is feminine. Therefore, the adjective must show the feminine form. This means that the third and last answers can be eliminated as they show the masculine form. The Spanish word for nervous is nerviosa which means that the second answer is spelled wrong (as was the last answer).
3. Grandfather is ANGRY.
[ ] enfadadá
[ ] enfadada
[ ] enfadadó
[x] enfadado
One of the things you learned for this quiz is that none of these feeling/emotion words have any accent marks. This then means that the first and third answers can be eliminated because they both show an accent mark. Next look for what the pronoun would be. The noun grandfather would be a 'he' which means you are looking for the masculine form of the word. The Spanish word for angry is enfadado.
4. She is GRATEFUL.
[ ] agrádecido
[ ] agradecido
[x] agradecida
[ ] agrádecida
One of the things you learned in this quiz is that none of these feeling/emotion words have any accent marks. The first and last answers show an accent mark which means they can be eliminated. As the sentence states 'she' then the feeling will need to be in the feminine form. The second answer shows the masculine form so it can be eliminated. The feminine word for 'grateful' is 'agradecida'.
5. My teacher is KIND.
[ ] amabla
[x] amable
[ ] amablo
[ ] amáble
In this series of feeling/emotion words, none of the words contain an accent mark. This then tells you that the last answer can be eliminated as it contains an accent mark. The Spanish word for kind is a neutral word which means it does not change its form to match a gender. The first and third answers show gender forms so they can be eliminated. The Spanish word for kind is amable.
6. William is EXCITED!
[x] emocionado
[ ] emocionada
[ ] emocoinado
[ ] emocionádo
In this series of feeling/emotion words, none of the words contain an accent mark. This then tells you that the last answer can be eliminated as it contains an accent mark. Next look at what would be the pronoun. As William is a 'he' you will need to find the masculine form of the adjective for excited. The second answer shows the feminine form so it, too, can be eliminated. The Spanish word for excited is emocionado. The third answer has misspelled this word making it the wrong answer.
7. The baby is TIRED.
[ ] cansados
[ ] cansada
[x] cansado
[ ] cansadas
In this sentence there is only one baby which means that the adjective will also be in the singular form. This now means that the first and last answers can be eliminated as they show the plural form. At this point you do not know if the baby is a boy or a girl. When you do not know, you always use the masculine form. This means that the second answer can now be eliminated as it shows the feminine form.
8. Janet is SICK.
[ ] enfermo
[x] enferma
[ ] énferma
[ ] enfermos
Janet is only one person so the adjective should reflect the singular form. This means that the last answer can be eliminated as it shows the plural form. You also know that none of the feeling/emotion words in this quiz contain an accent mark so you can also eliminate the third answer. Janet is a female so you will need to use the feminine form of the word which means you can now eliminate the first answer as it shows the masculine form.
9. He is very BITTER.
[ ] amagada
[ ] amargada
[ ] amagado
[x] amargado
The first thing to look at here is the pronoun which is 'he'. As 'he' is masculine, the adjective will also be masculine. The first and third answers are misspelled and the second answer shows the feminine form of the word. Therefore, the masculine form for bitter in this sentence would be 'armargado'.
10. I am LONELY.
[x] solitario
[ ] solitário
[ ] solitaria
[ ] solitarío
In this series of feeling/emotion words, none of the words contain an accent mark. This then tells you that the second and last answers can be eliminated as they contain an accent mark. At this point you do not know if the pronoun 'I' refers to a male or a female. When you do not know, you use the masculine form. This means that the third answer can be eliminated as it shows the feminine form.
