There are certain words that are related to math or science - algebra and molecule for example. Well, art is no different to any other subject in that many words, terms and phrases are associated with it.
Understanding the language of art and craft will not only enable students to talk confidently about their own work and the techniques and materials they have used, but will also allow them to critically evaluate the work of other artists using appropriate terminology.

This 'vocabulary of art' will grow and develop over time, as students learn about new and unfamiliar media and techniques, practice applying them to their own work and recognize structures and techniques in the art they encounter in their studies. The wider and more proficient their vocabulary in this area, the better-equipped they will be to annotate sketchbooks, critique their own work and that of others and, ultimately, talk with confidence about their inspirations and opinions of art work.
