Have you ever heard anyone mention their resume? If you have, you probably wondered what they were talking about. Well, a resume (also written as résumé) is a very brief history about your educational background and any degrees earned, your work experience skills, your past employers, a list of references (people they can contact to verify that the information you have given is correct and truthful), and, finally, your current contact information.

Whenever you apply for a job you will need to provide the potential employer with a resume. The trick of a resume is to give as much information as possible without saying too much. Most resumes should be no more than two pages long.

Remember, it is meant to be a very brief history, just enough information to catch a potential employer’s attention to want to call you in for an interview. It is then at the interview that you can give more details about your background and how you will fit into the position and the company.

It is important that the resume be neat and orderly but that doesn’t mean it has to be boring. There are things that you can do to spruce your resume up such as including a small photo of yourself next to your contact information. Typing your resume on good quality paper can also help your resume to shine. One thing to always remember about a resume is that it is your means of “marketing” yourself and your skills. You want people to see your marketing as being professional, not silly or ridiculous. See below for more information.
