A decimal point '.' separates smaller numbers from larger numbers. Numbers that are less than '1' go to the right of a decimal point while numbers '1' and larger are placed to the left of the decimal point. Fractions also separate larger numbers from smaller numbers and tell us the same things as a decimal number. For example, the decimal 76.9 tells us that the larger number is 76 as it is to the left of the decimal and the '9' is smaller as it is to the right of the decimal and is equal to 9 tenths of the number '1'. As a fraction, this would look like: 76 910

If the decimal number was 4.006, this would tell us that the larger number is 4 as it is to the left of the decimal and the smaller number is 6 as it is to the right and is equal to 6 one thousandths. As a fraction it would look like:
4 61000

65.02
[ ] 65 210
[ ] 65 21
[x] 65 2100
[ ] 65 02
Each number represents a digit. The digits are known as units (or ones), tens, hundred, thousands, ten thousands and so on. These digits will appear to the left of a decimal point. Digits referred to as tenths, hundredths, thousandths, ten thousandths, etc. reflect that the numbers are small then 1 unit and they go to the right of a decimal. Units are one digit to the left. Tens are two digits to the left. Hundreds are three digits to the left. Thousands are four digits to the left and ten thousands are five digits to the left. In the same frame, tenths are one digit to the right of a decimal. Hundredths are two digits to the left. Thousandths are three digits to the left and ten thousandths are four digits to the left. Knowing this, this number tells us we have 6 tens and 5 units. We also have 2 hundredths. Therefore, the decimal number written in a fraction form would be 65 2100
