Fascinating Fact:

Changes, like starting something new, can make you feel nervous. New things can feel easier after practise.

In PSHE Social Education, children learn that emotions are feelings like happy, sad, angry, or worried. Emotions can be caused by events, thoughts, and changes, and we can practise calm ways to respond.

  • Emotion: A feeling inside you, such as happy, cross, worried, or proud.
  • Trigger: Something that starts a feeling, like a loud noise or a big change.
  • Calm down: Using a safe way to help your body and mind feel more settled.
What makes children feel different emotions?

Children can feel different emotions because of what happens around them, what they think, or what their body feels, such as being tired, hungry, excited, or surprised.

How can I calm down when I feel worried or angry?

You can calm down by taking slow breaths, counting, getting a drink of water, moving to a quiet space, or talking to a trusted adult about what is bothering you.

Is it normal to feel nervous about new things?

Yes, it is normal to feel nervous about new things because your brain is learning something different. With practise and support, new things often start to feel easier.
