Can you name all the food groups?

Food Groups

This KS1 PSHE quiz will ask you questions about food groups. It is important that we eat a balanced diet to keep ourselves healthy and prevent illness. A balanced diet consists of the 5 food groups:

  • Fruit and vegetables
  • Carbohydrates
  • Fats and oils
  • Dairy produce
  • Protein

This quiz will help you learn why each food group is important and which group your favourite foods belong to.

Fruits and vegetables are full of vitamins that help keep us healthy. We should eat at least 5 portions a day and they should make up a third of the foods we eat

Bread is a carbohydrate that helps our bodies produce energy. Other carbohydrates are starchy foods such as pasta, rice and potatoes

Chicken
Chicken is a meat and comes from the food group protein. Milk, cheese and yoghurt are all good sources of dairy to help keep your bones strong

Apples are fruit that grow on trees. You can have red ones or green ones and they make a great healthy snack between meals if you are feeling hungry. An example of a vegetable is broccoli

Proteins help the body to grow and repair muscles helping to make us stronger. Protein can come from different sources including meat, fish and pulses

Dairy is a good source of calcium that helps keep our bones strong. Dairy can be found in some foods and some drinks

Carbohydrates give us energy and they should make up a third of the food we eat. You can make these even healthier by choosing wholegrain options

Is it okay to eat foods that are high in sugar, like sweets?
No, never - they are very bad for you

It is okay to eat foods that are high in sugar as a treat occasionally. Sugar can make food taste nice but it is not needed in the diet and can be bad for your teeth
