Animals - Carnivores, Herbivores and Omnivores

This quiz addresses the requirements of the National Curriculum KS1 Science for children aged 5 and 6 in years 1 and 2. Specifically this quiz is aimed at the section dealing with animals which are carnivores, herbivores or omnivores.

All animals have to eat food to live and grow. Some animals eat only plants. They are called herbivores. Some animals eat only meat. They are called carnivores. Some animals eat both plants and meat. They are called omnivores. Which animals are herbivores? Which are carnivores? Which are omnivores? You can group animals by what they eat.

  1. Herbivores eat only plants. Which one of these animals is a herbivore?

  2. Omnivores naturally eat both plants and animals. Which one of these animals is an omnivore?

    The ladybird doesn’t look like a meat eater. But the ladybird eats greenfly. Greenfly feed on plants
  6. A lot of animals are omnivores. They will eat whatever they can. Which one of these animals is an omnivore?
    The eagle is a carnivore. Chickens scratch around. They will eat grass, seeds and grains. But they will also eat small slugs, worms and insects
  7. The tiger is a big cat. It is a carnivore. Carnivores eat _____  _____.

  8. Cows and sheep are not the only herbivores. Lots of animals only eat plants. Which one of these is a herbivore?
