Recognizing number patterns is taught very early on in elementary school. To begin with, children will learn to recognize simple patterns which go up or down in ones and then use their knowledge of odd or even numbers, as well as a developing understanding of multiples of 5 or 10 to recognize other sequences, perhaps even developing their own patterns and sequences.
