Sometimes, to show a verb happened in the past, we can just add ‘ed’ to that word. However, there are some verbs that when moved from the present to past tense, change completely. These are called irregular past tense words.

Here, we change the word 'run' to 'ran'.

This is a regular verb tense and stopped is the correct way to write it in past tense.

I sanged in the car.
I sang in the car.
You just need to change the vowel in this word to show it happened in the past.

The colors of flames vary depending on what material has been set alight.

Fight is the present tense way of saying it but if you have already fought - then it's already happened!

He heared his friend on the other end.

He heard his friend on the other end.
Normally we add 'ed' to show something happened in the past. This word is an irregular past tense because we don't add 'ed', we just add 'd'.

The helicopter flown in the air.
The helicopter flew in the air.
The helicopter flied in the air.
The helicopter flyed in the air.
The word 'fly' changes to 'flew', so 'you will fly in the air' changes to 'you flew in the air'.

I find treasure.
I finded treasure.
I founded treasure.
I found treasure.
This word changes quite a bit - it goes from 'find' to 'found'.

Which sentence is correct and written in the past tense?
The young girl asked a question to her teacher.
The young girl askked a question to her teacher.
The young girl askinged a question to her teacher.
The young girl asks a question to her teacher.
Asked is the correct way to spell the past tense of ask.
