Story - Titanic

The Titanic was a large ship. It was actually the largest ship at that time. It started to be built in 1909 in Ireland. In May 1911, the Titanic was completed. It was placed into the ocean. The Titanic began its first trip on April 10, 1912 from England. It cost a lot of money to buy a ticket on this ship. Tickets in first class would cost over $50,000 if someone purchased that ticket today.

Many important people boarded that ship. They were known around the world. The ship had beautiful rooms. Even the rich people on the ship had never seen rooms like this before. These rooms had been designed with the most expensive furniture and artwork.

The Titanic was called an unsinkable ship. People believed that it could not be sunk. However, on this first trip, the ship hit an iceberg and sank in the Atlantic Ocean. It was on its way to New York. With over 2,200 people on board, only about 700 lived. There were only a few lifeboats on board. Many people died of freezing temperatures in the water.

Today, many people like to look at photos of the Titanic. Explorers have gone to the ocean floor and have taken pictures of the Titanic.
