When writing an assignment, a student needs to introduce the topic. If it is an opinion piece, they should next state their opinion. Students should think about how they want to organize their reasons before writing this section. They may organize their reasons by description, comparison/contrast and problem/solution. In this quiz, students will answer questions about introducing, organizing and writing an opinion piece.

Kids should stop watching television because they could be doing better things.
Televisions were invented in 1927.
The best introduction statement would be an attention-grabbing sentence or question that pertains to the prompt.

Description.
This prompt requires the writer to explain or describe reasons for having a birthday every day.

Prompt: Should students have to go to school on Saturday?
Which answer below introduces the topic the best?
I do not think students should go to school on Saturday.
Saturday and Sunday are weekend days.
Students should only go to school on Saturday in order to make up a missed school day.
A girl has to wake up early on Saturday to go to school.
This statement introduces the topic by grabbing the reader's attention without including the writer's opinion.

Compare and contrast making up with a friend and making up with a sister.
Describe how making up with a friend is hard to do.
Explain the solution to making up with a friend.
There are certain steps to making up with someone. This writing prompt wants those steps.

Prompt: Your mom gives you two choices to paint your bedroom. Which color is better: red or gold?
How do you plan on organizing your reasons for the prompt above?
Compare and contrast.
Sequence.
Problem and solution.
Cause and effect.
Since there are two colors to choose from and the writer needs to discuss which is better, the writer should compare and contrast the two colors.

Since there are two choices, the writer should compare and contrast these two things.

Milk should be the only drink served at lunch.

This sentence shows the writer's opinion about milk being served at school.
