In KS1 Maths, children learn the months of the year in order and link them to seasons and familiar events. Pupils use simple calendars to say which month is before or after, and to talk about birthdays and holidays.

  • Month: One of twelve named parts of a year, such as April or October.
  • Year: Twelve months together, often grouped into four seasons.
  • Calendar: A chart that shows months, weeks, and days to plan events.

What are the months of the year in order?

The months in order are January, February, March, April, May, June, July, August, September, October, November, December.

Which months are in each season in the UK?

Spring: March–May, Summer: June–August, Autumn: September–November, Winter: December–February. Children link months to weather and festivals.
