When students see a word that they don't understand, they should use the rest of the sentence to figure out the word. With first graders, they should confirm and self-correct the word recognition. The first graders will still need to use context clues to figure out unknown words. There are clues in a sentence to understand what is happening in the sentence. In the quiz, the students will use the context clues to figure out the definition of the capitalized word.
