There are several different systems in the human body. One of these is the circulatory system. The circulatory system transports blood to all the different parts of the body. Without it, your cells would never receive the oxygen and food they need to function. Your heart is busy beating all the time in order to pump blood through your arteries and keep it in circulation. Once it has dropped off the food and oxygen the blood is transported back to your heart through your veins. The lungs are also a part of the circulatory system. Blood is pumped to the lungs where it drops off waste carbon dioxide and picks up fresh oxygen before going around the body again.

1 .
The human circulatory system includes the heart, lungs and blood vessels. What is another name for the circulatory system ?
The endocrine system
The cardiovascular system
The nervous system
The digestive system
'Cardio' means 'heart' and 'vascular' refers to the blood vessels
2 .
Which blood vessels carry oxygenated blood?
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
All of the above
Veins carry deoxygenated blood back to the heart
3 .
What is the easiest way to measure your heart rate?
By seeing how many sit-ups you can do in 30 seconds
By counting your breaths
By listening to your heartbeats
By checking your pulse rate
Your pulse rate rises after you've been active for a short time
4 .
Which one of the following is not part of the heart?
Right ventilator
Septum
Right atrium
Left ventricle
Your heart is divided by the septum into two sides - each side is divided into an atrium and ventricle
5 .
What enters the blood from the lungs?
Oxygen
Acid
Carbon dioxide
Urea
Carbon dioxide leaves the body and oxygen enters
6 .
Blood delivers oxygen and what else to the cells in your body?
Carbon dioxide
Energy
Essential nutrients
Kind thoughts
Blood then takes on the waste materials from the cells, including carbon dioxide - it is a highly-efficient delivery system!
7 .
Which are the thinnest and smallest blood vessels?
Arteries
Veins
Capillaries
None of the above
The walls of capillaries are only one cell thick!
8 .
Waste products must be removed before the blood returns to the heart. Which organs remove waste from the blood?
The brain and spleen
The liver and kidneys
The skin and gall bladder
The liver and spleen
The waste is passed out of the body when you go to the toilet
9 .
The heart pumps blood to the lungs. What waste product is removed from the blood by the lungs?
Oxygen
Acid
Carbon dioxide
Urea
Carbon dioxide is sometimes written as CO2
10 .
Where does the heart pump oxygenated blood to?
To the brain only
To the lungs only
To the digestive system only
To the whole body
All the living cells in our bodies need oxygen in order to work
