07 December 2025 - AI News Quiz for Children Aged 11-14 Years Old

Welcome to the AI News Quiz for children aged 11–14! Every question is based on a real news story about artificial intelligence, from space missions and school projects to safety rules and court cases. You don’t need to know everything about AI already – this quiz is here to help you explore what’s happening.

For each question, pick the answer you think is right. If you’re not sure, just have a guess and see what happens. After every click, you’ll be told straight away whether you were correct and you’ll get a short explanation of the real story. By the end, you’ll know a lot more about how AI is changing our world.

1 .
What makes the new AI helper called “Xiaoxing” different from an ordinary reading app?
It reads weather forecasts aloud in a robot pirate voice.
It turns every story into a video game you must win first.
It’s an AI reading buddy designed to help blind children understand books.
It only recommends books about superhero hamsters in outer space.
On 3 December 2025, China Braille Press launched “Xiaoxing”, a new AI reading companion for blind children. It works on phones and computers, answering questions about stories and explaining tricky words and plots. Families can sign up for free so visually impaired children get extra help while they read.
2 .
What is one of the new space projects the UK is funding that uses AI?
Building a theme park on the Moon with rollercoaster rockets.
Using AI to help satellites track space junk.
Teaching astronauts to juggle planets during spacewalks.
Launching a giant space selfie stick for nonstop galaxy photos.
On 3 December 2025, the UK Space Agency announced £17 million for 17 projects through the National Space Innovation Programme. One project uses AI to analyse satellite data and track objects in orbit more accurately, helping spacecraft dodge dangerous debris and keeping Earth’s space neighbourhood safer.
3 .
What did a big new report say many UK teachers want so they can handle AI in school better?
More AI training so teachers feel ready to help students use it safely.
Robot teachers to replace all human staff in every lesson.
Free gaming PCs in every classroom for “AI-powered playtime”.
A rule that every piece of homework must be written by a chatbot first.
On 4 December 2025, Pearson released its School Report 2025. It found many UK teachers feel pupils aren’t ready for an AI-filled future and that teachers themselves don’t feel confident with AI. A large share said AI should be built into teacher training so they can use it safely and sensibly in lessons.
4 .
What is the new UK “AI champion” for manufacturing mainly supposed to do?
Start a TV talent show where robots juggle car parts.
Shut every factory and let robots do gardening instead.
Build one giant mega-factory and ignore all the others.
Help factories use AI to work smarter, faster and waste less.
On 1 December 2025, the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre announced Professor Chris Dungey as a new national AI champion for UK manufacturing. His job is to help factories, especially smaller ones, adopt AI so they can boost productivity, cut waste and stay competitive while also becoming greener.
5 .
What is the main aim of Wales’s new national plan for using AI?
Use AI safely to boost Wales’s economy and public services.
Force every school in Wales to replace teachers with robots.
Turn all of Wales into one giant video-game arena for AI battles.
Make everyone learn computer code before they are allowed to watch TV.
On 3 December 2025, the Welsh Government published its first AI Plan for Wales. It sets out a vision to use AI to grow the economy, improve public services in Welsh and English, and build digital skills, while making sure AI is fair, responsible and good for future generations.
6 .
What did a big new safety report say about how major AI companies are behaving?
They already follow all the world’s safety rules perfectly.
Many of them are still failing to meet global safety standards.
They have decided to shut down every powerful AI system they built.
They only use AI for harmless things like counting kittens in photos.
On 3 December 2025, the Future of Life Institute released its Winter 2025 AI Safety Index. It found that major AI companies such as OpenAI, Anthropic, xAI and Meta are “far short” of emerging safety standards and still lack strong plans to control very powerful AI systems, so experts are calling for tougher rules.
7 .
According to a new survey, what do most people in the UK want for AI?
A giant AI mascot to sing the news on breakfast TV.
Free robot helpers to do all their homework and chores.
An independent regulator to keep AI safe, fair and under control.
A rule that every video game must secretly include a maths quiz.
On 4 December 2025, the Ada Lovelace Institute released polling showing that nearly 9 in 10 UK adults support having an independent regulator for AI. People care more about safety, fairness and social impact than about speed or profit, and they want someone with real powers to keep AI in check.
8 .
Why is the UK actors’ union Equity asking film and TV performers to vote in a new ballot?
To vote on turning every movie into a musical about chatbots.
To choose a sparkly new costume for all film robots, complete with disco lights.
To demand that every movie script is written only by AI from now on.
To decide if they should take action over AI copies of their faces and voices.
On 4 December 2025, actors’ union Equity launched a ballot of thousands of film and TV performers about AI. Members are worried about “digital doubles” made from scans of their faces and voices being reused without fair pay or permission, so the ballot tests support for possible industrial action.
9 .

It was upset that robots were beating humans at its spelling bee contest.
On 3 December 2025, U.S. News & World Report filed a lawsuit in New York, claiming OpenAI copied and used its college and hospital rankings and other articles without permission to train and run AI models like ChatGPT. The case is part of a growing wave of copyright battles over AI training data.
10 .
What are two new UK AI projects from Deep Planet and Space DOTS mainly trying to do?
Help farmers and satellites protect land and space using AI.
Build giant space billboards that show snack adverts to any astronaut or alien flying past.
Teach cows to send text messages about their feelings using tiny rocket-powered collars.
Turn every asteroid into a glowing emoji so space looks more fun from Earth.
On 4 December 2025, at the Appleton Space Conference, Deep Planet and Space DOTS were named as winners of ESA Phi-Lab UK funding. Deep Planet uses AI with satellite data to measure carbon in farmers’ soil, while Space DOTS uses sensors and AI to track radiation and “space weather” to protect spacecraft.
