What Are the Risks of Using AI in Schoolwork?

AI tools like ChatGPT can be super helpful when you’re stuck — but are they always safe to use for schoolwork? This quiz takes you through some of the hidden risks that come with using AI for homework, essays, or even group projects.

We’re not here to scare you, just to help you think clearly. Should you trust AI with your facts? Can your teacher tell if you didn’t write something yourself? What happens if you never practise writing on your own anymore?

If you’ve ever been tempted to let AI do the thinking, this quiz is a fun and easy way to explore why that might not be the best move. Let’s see how much you already know — and what you can do to stay ahead of the game (without falling into the AI trap)!

1 .
What’s a risk of copying your homework straight from AI?
Your printer might get jealous
Your teacher might give you a gold star
You could be accused of cheating
The AI will ask to come to school with you
If you copy AI-generated work without adding your own ideas, it can count as cheating. Schools expect you to show your thinking, not just paste what a chatbot says.
2 .
What might happen if AI gives you the wrong information?
You get extra marks for creativity
Your laptop turns into a lie detector
The essay writes itself backwards
You could include mistakes without realising
AI tools don’t always give accurate answers. If you don’t double-check what they say, you might end up handing in work with errors — and not even know it.
3 .
Why is relying on AI for every assignment a bad habit?
You miss out on learning and improving your own skills
It takes too long to copy and paste
The AI might ask for snacks
It’s way too quiet without your brain doing anything
If you always let AI do the thinking, you don’t get to practise important skills like writing, researching, or problem-solving — and that can hurt you later on.
4 .
Why might a teacher spot that your work was written by AI?
Because AI always adds emojis to essays
The writing might not sound like you at all
Teachers have secret robot detectors
AI writes everything in all caps for drama
AI writing often has a different tone or structure than what you’d normally write. Teachers can tell when something doesn’t match your usual voice or style.
5 .
What could go wrong if you don’t check what AI gives you?
It turns your essay into a rap battle
You accidentally submit a shopping list
The answer might be completely off-topic
Your teacher might join ChatGPT for revenge
AI can sometimes misunderstand your question or generate random content. If you don’t read it properly, you could hand in something that doesn’t answer the task at all.
6 .
What’s a risk of using AI without understanding the topic?
You might not be able to explain your own work
The AI might ask for a high five
Your essay could start glowing mysteriously
You’ll be asked to present it... in song form
If you don’t really understand what AI has written, you might struggle when asked to explain it — in class, in a test, or even just in conversation.
7 .
Why is it risky to use AI for personal or sensitive school topics?
AI might write something in pirate speak
It’ll charge you extra for deep thoughts
Your laptop might start crying
AI doesn’t understand emotions or personal experience
AI can’t feel or relate to personal stories, so it might write something that feels off or even a bit insensitive — especially on emotional or important topics.
8 .
What could happen if you rely on AI and stop practising writing?
You’ll forget how to hold a pen
Your writing skills might get weaker over time
The AI will apply for your future job
You’ll accidentally invent a new language
Writing takes practice. If you skip that practice and rely on AI, your skills may fade — making it harder to express your thoughts clearly in exams or later in life.
9 .
What’s a problem with trusting AI to do group work for you?
AI will ask to join your WhatsApp group
Your group will start calling it the leader
It doesn’t actually work as part of a team
It insists on writing everything in Shakespearean English
AI can generate text, but it can’t listen, share ideas, or work with others. Group work is about teamwork, not just typing — and AI can’t replace that.
10 .
Why should you think twice before submitting AI-written work?
It might break school rules and get you in trouble
The font will automatically switch to Comic Sans
Your computer will ask for a round of applause
AI essays are secretly written by raccoons in disguise
Many schools have rules against using AI to do your work for you. Submitting it as your own could lead to serious consequences — even if it sounds smart.
