Reading Comprehension 10

You and your friends must have gone on holidays together a number of times. You must have stayed in your relatives’ homes or friends’ places or even hotels. Let's assume that your father wants you to check out a hotel for him to book for the next holiday. He gives you a write up a friend of his gave him. He wants you to study the write up and then to advise him. How would you go about understanding the information given in the write up?

The first thing you would have to do is read the write up fully and completely. Obviously, your father would have given his requirements or by now you know what kind of hotel your father likes. So, when you read the write up you would check for all the things that your father likes and see if the hotel described in the write up provides them.

In order to check the various facilities available in the hotel you need to know what each facility stands for. Assume that the write up has a Jacuzzi facility. Do you know what a Jacuzzi is? If you know then all well and good, but if not you would need to look the word up in a dictionary to find out the meaning.

Once you have thoroughly studied the write up and understood the various information set out in the write up you would be ready to advise your father. Remember, it is not that you cannot check with your father to know what he wants. You can seek clarifications from your father so that your information is up to date and then you will be in a better position to advise your father.

Read the text that follows and then test your reading comprehension levels by taking the quiz. Think about the long hours you have spent in understanding the English language. Apply all that you have learnt to understand the text so that you can advise your father appropriately.

For any family with lots of kids and limited budget your search for a resort ends with the Santana Beach Resort in Goa. The place is awesome with many activities for kids and two pools with one of them sunken for people like me to enjoy reading a book with a mug of chilled beer in my hand. The resort is extremely quiet except for the sound of the waves as it is surrounded by greenery. Since the food inside, at the Calamari and Olegario, is excellent you need not go outside. The resort offers international cuisine. This is a place where you can spend a whole week without pinching your pocket too much. The other feature is the quality of service which I suspect stems from the fact that this is a family run resort and the owners do care for their customers.

The phrase 'limited budget' means where the amount of money to be spent is limited or less and 'without pinching your pocket' means not too much money is needed to be taken out of your pocket to pay for the services
