Everything you need to know before you play.
Is the Spelling Game suitable for all ages?
Yes. Choose from levels for ages 5 to 16, or try Challenging for an extra test. Adults can join in too.
How do I play the Spelling Game?
Choose your level, then look at four words. Three are spelt correctly and one contains a mistake. Select the incorrect word to earn points.
Can I choose a different age level?
Yes. You can choose any level that suits your ability. Try an easier one for practice or a harder one for a new challenge.
How does the scoring system work?
The more answers you get right in a row, the more points you earn. Your first correct answer is worth 1 point, your second is worth 2, and so on, up to 10 points per correct answer. If you get one wrong, your next correct answer starts at 1 point again – but you keep all the points you've already earned.
How does the weekly leaderboard work?
The leaderboard shows the highest-scoring subscribed players over the past seven days. Each age level has its own leaderboard, plus there's an all-ages leaderboard.
Can I play the Spelling Game for free?
Yes. Visitors can try a limited number of questions for free. Subscribers can enjoy unlimited game practice and access thousands of teacher-written quizzes.
