Fascinating Fact:

We wear lighter clothes in summer and warmer clothes in winter.

In KS1 Geography, children learn that the year is split into seasons. Each season has different weather, daylight, and activities, and we change what we wear to stay comfortable and safe.

  • Season: One of the four parts of the year, such as spring or winter, with its own kind of weather.
  • Weather: What the air is like outside each day, for example sunny, rainy, windy, or snowy.
  • Temperature: How warm or cold it is, which we can measure with a thermometer.
What are the four seasons in the UK?

The four seasons in the UK are spring, summer, autumn, and winter. They follow in this order every year and each season has its own typical weather.

Why do we have different seasons?

We have different seasons because the Earth moves around the Sun and is slightly tilted. This tilt changes how much sunlight each part of the Earth receives during the year.

How can children tell what season it is?

Children can look at the weather, the clothes people wear, and what nature is doing, like blossom on trees in spring or bare branches and frosty mornings in winter.
