California - The Golden State.

California

California was admitted to the Union on September the 9th 1850, making it the 31st state in the USA.

The largest city in California, and the second largest in the USA, is Los Angeles which had an estimated 2014 population of 3,884,307.

California produces over 17 million gallons of wine every year - enough to fill 25 Olympic sized swimming pools!

Unsurprisingly, given that there was a gold rush in California in the mid 1800s, the state mineral is gold.

California's economy is larger than those of all but 6 members of the United Nations.
