Delaware - The Blue Hen State.

Delaware

Delaware is the 49th largest of the US states, covering an area of 1,982 square miles or 6,452 square km.

Delaware has several nicknames including The Peach Blossom State, Blue Hen State and Small Wonder. This last nickname is due to the many contributions Delaware has made to the world despite its small size.

Delaware is named after the English soldier and statesman Thomas West, the 3rd Baron De La Warr who lived from 1577 – 1618.

The highest point in Delaware is 447 feet or 136 metres. Its average elevation is 60 feet or 20 metres, making it the lowest US state in terms of mean height above sea level.
