Florida was admitted to the Union on March the 3rd 1845, making it the 27th American State.

The State Gem of Florida is the Moonstone - despite the fact that it is not found naturally there.

Florida is the 22nd largest US state, having an area of 65,755 square miles or 170,304 square km.

The Zebra Longwing is Florida's Official State Butterfly. It is long lived compared to most butterflies - 3 months as opposed to 2 weeks.
