Hawaii - The Aloha State

Hawaii

Hawaii is the newest member of the United States. It was admitted to the Union on the 21st of August 1959 making it the 50th state in the USA>

Hawaii is geographically isolated being some 2,390 miles (3,850 km) from California, 4,900 miles (7,890 km) from China and 5,280 miles (8,500 km) from the Philippines.

The highest point in Hawaii is the dormant volcano Mauna Kea which is 13,796 feet or 4205 metres tall.

Hawaii is unique amongst the United States in many ways. It is the only state not in North America, the only state wholly surrounded by water, the only state with royal palaces and the only state whose borders contain no straight lines.
