Fascinating Fact:

Tiny creatures like bees have flower food sources, drinking sweet nectar and carrying pollen that helps new plants grow.

In KS1 Science, you learn that all living things need food. Plants make their own food, while animals find food by eating plants, other animals, or both.

  • Food Source: The place or thing a living creature gets its food from, such as plants, seeds, or other animals.
  • Herbivore: An animal that eats only plants, like rabbits, cows, and many insects.
  • Carnivore: An animal that eats other animals, like lions, owls, or some spiders.
What is a food source in KS1 science?

In KS1 science, a food source is where an animal or plant gets its energy from. For example, grass is a food source for cows, and nectar is a food source for bees.

How do plants get their food?

Plants make their own food in their leaves using sunlight, water, and air. This process gives them energy to grow, so they do not need to eat like animals.

What is the difference between herbivores and carnivores for children?

Herbivores eat only plants, carnivores eat other animals, and some animals called omnivores eat both plants and animals.
