In KS1 Vocabulary, children learn that verbs tell us about actions and what people do. Knowing verbs helps children build clearer sentences when speaking, reading and writing.

  • Verb: A word that tells what someone or something does.
  • Form: To make or create something.
  • Set: To put something in a place or make it ready.
What is a verb in KS1?

A verb in KS1 is a doing word. It tells what a person, animal or thing is doing, such as run, jump, form or set.

What does form mean for children?

For children, form means to make something. Children might form a line, form a circle or form letters when they are writing.

What does set mean in simple words?

Set means to place something or get it ready. For example, you might set a book on a table or set out your pencils.
