In KS1 Vocabulary, children learn that verbs are action words that tell us what people do. Words like these help children talk about learning, organising and everyday tasks.

  • Verb: A word that tells what someone or something does.
  • Plan: To think about what you will do before you do it.
  • Study: To look, listen, read or practise so you can learn something.
What is a verb in KS1?

A verb in KS1 is a doing word. It tells what a person, animal or thing is doing, such as jump, play, plan or study.

What does plan mean for children?

For children, plan means to think ahead about what to do. A child might plan a picture, a game or the order of a task.

What does study mean in simple words?

Study means to spend time learning. Children study when they read, listen, practise, remember facts and think carefully about something new.
