In KS1 Vocabulary, children learn that verbs are action words that tell us what people do. These verbs help children understand instructions, classroom rules and careful everyday actions.

  • Verb: A word that tells what someone or something does.
  • Mind: To be careful about something or to pay attention.
  • Require: To need something because it is important or necessary.
What is a verb in KS1?

A verb in KS1 is a doing word. It tells what a person, animal or thing is doing, such as run, jump, mind or require.

What does mind mean for children?

For children, mind can mean be careful or pay attention. You might mind a step, mind your manners or mind where you are going.

What does require mean in simple words?

Require means to need something. For example, a task may require time, help or careful listening so it can be done properly.
