  • Verb: A word that tells what someone or something does.
  • Measure: To find out the size, length or amount of something.
  • Choose: To pick one thing from two or more options.
What is a verb in KS1?

A verb in KS1 is a doing word. It tells what a person, animal or thing is doing, such as run, jump, measure or choose.

What does measure mean for children?

For children, measure means finding out how long, tall, heavy or full something is. Children measure with tools such as rulers, cups and scales.

What does choose mean in simple words?

Choose means to pick something. Children choose when they select a colour, a book, an answer or a game from different options.
