In KS1 Vocabulary, children learn that verbs are action words that tell us what people do. These verbs help children talk about sharing ideas, speaking together and showing meaning.

  • Verb: A word that tells what someone or something does.
  • Discuss: To talk about something with another person.
  • Represent: To stand for or show something else.
What is a verb in KS1?

A verb in KS1 is a doing word. It tells what a person, animal or thing is doing, such as run, jump, discuss or represent.

What does discuss mean for children?

For children, discuss means to talk about something together. Children discuss ideas when they share answers, ask questions and listen to other people.

What does represent mean in simple words?

Represent means to stand for or show something. A picture, sign, badge or colour can represent a group, an idea or an object.
