What is a verb in KS1?

A verb in KS1 is a doing word. It tells what a person, animal or thing is doing, such as run, jump, gain or encourage.

What does gain mean for children?

For children, gain means to get something. A child might gain confidence, gain a sticker, gain a point or gain a new skill by practising.

What does encourage mean in simple words?

Encourage means to help someone feel brave or positive about trying. Kind words and support can encourage children to keep going and do their best.
